The Alexandria Move-In Checklist Every New Homeowner Should Run Through

Faiz · 5 min read

I've done hundreds of move-in handyman days in Alexandria — Del Ray, Old Town, Rosemont, Huntington. Here's what I check on every single one.

Before You Unpack

  • Test every door — does it latch, lock, and swing without sticking?
  • Run every faucet and check under sinks while they're running
  • Test every GFCI outlet in bathrooms, kitchen, and garage
  • Check grout lines in showers and tubs for cracks

First Month Priorities

  • Caulk around tubs, showers, and window sills if existing caulk is cracked
  • Check attic access for signs of moisture or prior leaks
  • If there's carpet in bedrooms, lift a corner — you may have hardwood underneath

Good First Projects

Fresh paint throughout before furniture goes in is the highest-impact thing most new Alexandria homeowners do. Mounting shelves, TV, and art comes next — and is always easier when the rooms are empty.
