The DC Metro area's four-season climate means your home's exterior takes a beating year-round. Summer heat, winter freezes, and spring storms all create wear that compounds if left unaddressed.
Start with gutters. Clogged gutters cause water to pool near the foundation, leading to basement moisture, landscape erosion, and even structural damage over time. Clean gutters at least twice a year — once in late spring and again in late fall after leaves drop.
Check siding for cracks, warping, or gaps where insects and moisture can enter. A small crack in vinyl siding is a quick repair; left alone, it becomes a moisture channel that rots the sheathing underneath.
Fences and decks need attention too. Wood fences should be stained or sealed every 2–3 years to prevent rot and UV damage. Deck boards should be checked annually for soft spots, popped fasteners, and railing stability.
